UPCOMING EVENTS

Dates for your diaries - 2024

For the present Covid has become less of an issue but all planned events may be subject to change should a flare up occur.

Group Meets

Throughout the year we get together as a Group .. Each meeting focuses on a particular aspect of beekeeping usually with an experienced beekeeper providing a presentation to prompt discussion and an exchange of views.

The following dates are set:

12th April 24 LBG honey competition at Tregadillet Community Hall. Our last inside meet of the season and for the first time in a while a competition to judge the best honey and related products amongst LBG members . Sue Hoult will be the Show Secretary and Peter Hicks will be our judge. 4 classes agreed. Runny honey light, runny honey medium, set honey and any other bee related product.. Honey to be in 2 x matching 454g jars.  First and Second prizes to be awarded with certificates.

18th May 24 Peter Hicks Apiary visit Pipers Pool. Traditionally our first Apiary visit is at Peters and this year is no different.

25th to 27th May 24 Launceston Steam Rally . Five Lanes. This year as an experiment  for the first time we are planning to attend all 3 days of this event with our gazebo. As well as the usual display and promotion of beekeeping and the Launceston Beekeeping group we are arranging a sales table. We will be looking for a few volunteers to help man but again if you can come along to support ( and buy me a coffee!!!) that would be great. Hopefully the weather will be kind.

20th July 24 Chris Marshall Apiary Visit, North Petherwin.

10th August 24. Social BBQ hosted by Barbara Hassall in Altarnun.

Throughout the Spring Summer on relevant Wednesdays and Saturdays Sue and Mark Hoult, Peter Hicks and Paul Hine will be organising training days at their Apiaries...with a focus on Swarm Control and Nuc rearing.

Autumn/Winter 2024/25 inside meets…Tregadillett Community Hall, dates to be confirmed.

The presentations are followed by plenty of chatter over tea and cake.

Royal Cornwall Show 6th to 8th June 2024

Callington Honey Fair Saturday 28th September 2024

An important event for honey tasting and comparisons. A detailed schedule of classes will be published in Septembers Gwenyn Kernow but as usual there are special Novice classes and we would encourage all our members to submit an entry subject to the appropriate quality being met.

Observation Apiary Visits 2024.

We offer Observation Apiary visits from April through to July for new and inexperienced beekeepers. Subject to the right weather conditions they commence at 1100 on a Saturday morning.

A suitable bee jacket is provided. The visits will be to an Apiary near Launceston. Attendance is possible by contacting the Secretary using the launcestonbeekeepers@gmail.com email address.

Ideal as a taster to see if beekeeping is for you. You do not need to be a member to attend one of these sessions.

They provide the opportunity to see hives develop through the busiest part of the year and seek guidance and advice.

Numbers are limited to 8 attendees. If numbers allow, the sessions are open to prospective members of the LBG and general members of public who want a "taste" of beekeeping.

There is a nominal charge of £2 per visit. With all payments going to LBG funds.
